Estimations of quality are just that -- estimations at this point. This means that should the kitten continue to develop as it appears now, he or she should fall into that designation. Occasionally a kitten that looks very promising at 8 weeks will not hold together by 4-6 months. Sam's kittens tend to hold together -- they rarely change significantly in terms of quality. There are fine gradations of change that can move a kitten from show to breeder quality, or breeder to pet quality,but Sam's babies rarely "fall apart" as can happen with some stud cats. Also, there are many different levels of "show quality," and those are virtually impossible to predict at less than 6-8 months as kittens can change in quality as they mature. For that reason I do not list even my most promising kittens as "top show" - occasionally one may have that potential, but it is impossible to tell for certain at that young age what real potential they may hold. Show quality means that the kitten sufficiently meets the breed standard to be shown in either TICA or CFA.
TinkerBelle!
Pictured right are two of Cori and Mickey's babies, born December 13th. The red classic tabby boy has a very clear pattern, gorgeous wide-set eyes, nice frontal doming, and excellent span between his ears. He looks like he will be nice and cobby too. Mom and Dad both have excellent, heavy boning too. His ears are smaller than they appear in the pics. At this point his bite is correct as well. He is RESERVED by Melody in IL. His sister is a gorgeous tortie Exotic Persian - long coat who could be shown in TICA or ACFA. She has outstanding frontal doming and is a beautiful, sweet girl. Her bite is correct at this point. She is now reserved by Lisa and will be joining Lucy and Percy-her half siblings, in CA!
Their red mackeral tabby brother is going to a show home! He is now with Diane and looking forward to show career in ACFA.
"The Breeders’ Poem"
(Dedicated to Promise who lost her fight for life despite our heroic efforts, and to Precious Peanut, taken far too young)
I love my little kitty; she makes my house a home. She is my very best friend; I never feel alone.
She makes me smile;
She makes me laugh;
She fills my heart with love . . .
Did some breeder breed her, or did she fall down from above?
I've never been a breeder, never seen life through their eyes;
I hold my little kitty and just sit and criticize.
I've never known their anguish; I've never felt their pain, the caring of their charges, through snow or wind or rain.
I've never sat the whole night through, waiting for babies to be born,
the stress and trepidation when they're still not there by dawn.
I've never felt the heartache of a little life in my hands, this darling little baby, who weighs but 60 grams.
Should you do that instead of this . . . or this instead of that?
Alone you fight and hope one day, he'll grow to be a cat.
You pray he’ll live to bring joy to another family, and make a house a home.
You know it's all just up to you; you'll fight this fight alone.
Formula, bottles, heating pads, you've got to get this right,
two-hour feedings for this tiny guy, throughout the day and night.
In your heart you know you're almost sure to lose this epic fight, to save this little baby,
but God willing . . . you just MIGHT.
Day one he's in there fighting; you say a silent prayer.
Day two & three, he's doing well, with lots of love and care.
Day four & five . . . he's still alive; your hopes soar to the heavens.
Day six he slips away again, dies in your hands day seven.
You take this little angel, and bury him alone.
With aching heart and burning tears, and an exhausted groan, you ask yourself,
"Why do this? . . . Why suffer all this pain?"
But see the joy your kittens bring . . . it really self-explains.
So, when you think of breeders and label them with "Greed,"
Think about what they endure to fill another’s need.
When you buy a kitten, and with your precious dollars part,
You only pay with money . . . we pay with a piece of our heart.
